66°North
A short film from Svalbard about moving through isolation, cold and uncertainty.

The trip changed, so the film did too.
Overview
True North follows explorer Lucy Shepherd through the Arctic landscapes of Svalbard. Base Camp developed the project, shot it on a ski expedition in spring 2025 and delivered the film, stills and social content for 66°North, which premiered it at its Regent Street store.
Outcome
Premiered at 66°North on Regent Street on 8 October 2025 and released on 66°North’s YouTube channel the same day.

Challenge
True North is a film about Lucy Shepherd: explorer, guide and a friend of the studio. After In Search of Winter, Lucy and Base Camp took 66°North a new idea, and in spring 2025 Base Camp went with her to Svalbard, where she was guiding a ski expedition for Turgleder.
The trip didn’t go to plan, and the film changed with it. It became the story of Lucy herself, told on the ice where it began.

Role
- Concept and creative deck.
- Filming and photography on the expedition.
- Edit and delivery: an 11-minute film, with titles in 66°North’s style.
- More than 5,000 images, a curated selects set and a black-and-white series.
- Short-form reels, drone footage and raw clips for 66°North’s social team.
- Premiere support at 66°North Regent Street.

Up first
Base Camp travelled as one of the team, looking after itself in temperatures down to −40°C and taking its turn on polar bear watch.
The camera was up before anyone else, to film the camp as it woke.

Their trip, too
The film was for 66°North, but the expedition belonged to its guests. They had paid to ski across Svalbard, not to appear in a film, so the camera worked around the group rather than through it.
Alongside the film, Base Camp shot stills and video for 66°North, content for Turgleder, and photographs the guests could keep.

Red in the white
Lucy’s red 66°North shells are often the only colour in the frame. The stills, reels and drone footage were made on the same trip as the film, so 66°North’s team came away with one library: more than 5,000 images, a curated selects set and a black-and-white series.

A life in the cold
The film is a portrait as much as a journey. It moves from home video of Lucy as a child, through the Amazon and the television interviews that followed, to the place she keeps coming back to. It all started in Svalbard, in 2011.

04 — Outcome
True North premiered on 8 October 2025 at 66°North on Regent Street, with Lucy in conversation with Tinuke Oyediran, and went out on 66°North’s YouTube channel the same day. 66°North called the result “breathtaking” and ran a second push in November, with a collaborative reel and a dedicated newsletter.
